Part 1

Our story begins with a tale about Colonel Chester Huntington Orland, explorer, adventurer, anthropologist and aromaoligist. A brash, rowdy, independent intellectual he was best known for his contributions to olfactory science and storytelling. We have come to know him through a series of journals found in an old curio shop in London’s East End.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s Colonel Orland traveled the globe in search of materials used that defined the scent of humans. The science was always based on prevailing circumstances. He believed the best way to understand cultures, from primitive to contemporary, was through scent. But not until he traveled to Tibet where he met a buddhist monk named Drilha (DREE-la) did he have a profound awakening.

Drilha, an outspoken rebel, roguish type monk who was an entrepreneur, offered to introduce the Colonel to someone who could provide profound enlightenment about scents. He informed the Colonel that it would require a trip high into the Himalayas . . . . .
